Nurse Wound Care Supervisor

Job Summary:

The Nurse Wound Care Supervisor is responsible for overseeing wound care services, ensuring high-quality patient care. This role involves clinical expertise, leadership, and collaboration to optimize wound management and healing outcomes.. 


Main Duties and Responsibilities:
 

  1. Clinical:
    1. Assess and evaluate patient wounds to determine appropriate treatment plans.
    2. Perform wound care procedures, including cleaning, dressing, and debridement.
    3. Monitor patient progress and adjust care plans as needed.
    4. Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care.
    5. Stay updated on the latest wound care techniques and products.
  2. Leadership and Management:
    1. Supervise and mentor the wound care nursing team.
    2. Ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
    3. Utilize effective communication strategies to collaborate and interact with staff, patients and other healthcare professionals.
    4. Demonstrate respect and cultural sensitivity in all interactions with others.
    5. Participate in committees, task forces, projects and other duties as requested/delegated. 
  3. Education & Continuing Professional Development:
    1. Organize training sessions and workshops for the nursing team on wound care best practices.
    2. Support staff in obtaining certifications related to wound care.
    3. Promote participation in conferences and seminars to enhance professional knowledge.
    4. Educate patients and their families on wound care techniques and infection prevention.
  4. Quality, Safety and Risk Management
    1. Develop and implement quality improvement initiatives for wound care services.
    2. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as infection rates and healing times.
    3. Ensure adherence to infection control protocols and safety standards.
    4. Identify and mitigate risks associated with wound care procedures.
  5. Confidentiality:
    1. Safeguard patient information and ensure compliance with confidentiality policies.
    2. Investigate and address breaches of confidentiality in a timely and professional manner. 

Education / Licensure (essential minimum requirement)

  • Master's degree in Wound Care or a related field.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license..
  • Certification in wound care (e.g., WOCN, CWCN, or equivalent).
  • BLS.

Desirable 

  • Additional certifications or training in specialized wound care (e.g., negative pressure wound therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy).
  • Familiarity with quality improvement processes and KPIs related to wound care services.
  • Participation in professional wound care organizations or networks.

Professional Experience (essential minimum requirement):

  • At least 5 years of clinical nursing experience, with 2–3 years specializing in wound care.
  • Expertise in advanced wound care techniques and management.
