Mr. Mohammad Abu Ghazaleh is a leading businessman and philanthropist. He has served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Fresh Del Monte Produce since 1996. Spearheading a turnaround in the performance of the company, Mr. Abu Ghazaleh was instrumental in cementing the company’s role as one of the world’s pre-eminent fresh, fresh-cut and prepared fruit and vegetable producers and distributors. The company went public on the New York Stock Exchange in 1997, with the ticker symbol FDP. Alongside this, Mr. Abu Ghazaleh serves as Chairman of International General Insurance Co., Chairman of the Royal Jordanian Air Academy, Chairman of Arab Wings and Chairman of Queen Noor Civil Aviation Technical College. 

 

Adding to his diverse list of expertise, Mr. Abu Ghazaleh is also Chairman of the Abdali Hospital in Amman. He is also a founding shareholder of Clemenceau Medical Center, Beirut. 

 

From 1997 - 2010 he was made Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of IAT Group Inc. He was President and Chief Executive Officer of United Trading Company from 1986 - 1996. Prior to this, he acted as Managing Director of Metico from 1967 - 1986. He was also previously the chairman of Arab Pharmaceutical Company which was sold to Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC and is listed on the London Stock Exchange. He was appointed as a member of the Economic Consultative Council by His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan. The 21-member body includes public and private sector leaders and was established to advise the Monarch on economic and social issues. Additionally, Mr.Abu Ghazaleh was on the Board of King Hussein Cancer Center. He served on the Boards of Directors of Bank Misr Liban, United Cable Company, Inc. From 2004 - March 2011 and on the Board of Directors of Jordan Kuwait Bank. 

 

Alongside his important ties to the business world, he is also a prominent cultural philanthropist. Abu Ghazaleh is Founder of the Mohammad and Mahera Abu Ghazaleh Foundation (MMAG Foundation), which he established with his family with the mission to help make art and culture accessible to the broadest public. The Foundation supports curatorial posts, exhibitions and education programmes at leading cultural institutions around the world including Spring Sessions (Jordan), Chisenhale Gallery, Tate Modern, Whitechapel Gallery, Serpentine Galleries, Delfina Foundation (all UK) and the New Museum (US). The family also supported the development of the Palestinian Art Museum and the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music (both Palestine). The Abu Ghazaleh family is currently establishing the MMAG Foundation campus in Amman, which will include a free art school, community center and permanent gallery spaces together with a public art education programme.

 

Mr. Abu Ghazaleh attended the American University in Cairo (AUC) where he studied Business Administration. He served on the Board of Trustees at AUC from September 2007 - March 2014.
