Job Summary

Performs various functions related to drug preparation and dispensing that ensures proper adherence to formulary guidelines as well as ensuring safe, appropriate, and cost effective pharmacotherapy.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepares and dispenses medication orders per physician request according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.  

• dispense the medications accurately including the right medication, dose, frequency , route and duration for the right patient .

• Ensures safe, appropriate, and cost effective medication therapies for patients according to established policies, procedures, and protocols. 

• Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department. 

• Counsels patients on the appropriate use of medications & their families.

• Trains and orient new staff to their assigned duties and tasks

• Inspects all stores and areas where medications are available in the hospital including storage conditions, medication stock, medication trolleys.

Job Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy.                                                                                     

• 4-5 years experience in modern hospital pharmacy practice including, sterile drug preparation, safe handling of cytotoxic agents, and unit dose dispensing for inpatients, drug utilization review and patient education and counseling.
