Respiratory Therapist

Job Summary

Implementation of respiratory therapy services, perform basic respiratory therapy services, perform and describe various modes of invasive/non-invasive mechanical ventilation therapy.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in interdepartmental problem-solving process.
  • Communicate and participate with biomedical department regarding machine maintenance and troubleshooting issues.
  • Keep accurate electronic archives of patient's record and finance.
  • Participate in research and improvement projects regarding unit development and patient care.
  • Coordinate patients care programs with other hospital services.
  • Plans and administers treatment programs for patients.
  • Maintains communication with physicians and other health care workers regarding treatment.
  • Administer oxygen and aerosol therapies.
  • Perform ABG sampling, analyse and interpretation.
  • Perform basic respiratory therapy services on the floors and outpatient clinic.
  • Perform pulmonary function test.
  • Perform and describe various modes of invasive/non-invasive mechanical ventilation therapy.
  • Provide emergency care, including artificial respiration, external cardiac massage and assistant with cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Perform tracheal, endotracheal and nasopharyngeal suctioning.
  • Adheres to internal controls established for respiratory therapy services.
  • Follow infection control policies and procedure.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

Education / Licerisure (essential minimum requirement):

  • Graduate of an accredited respiratory care program (preferable).
  • University graduate of a nursing school or faculty of science.
  • Certification as respiratory therapy technician.
  • Evidence of BLS/ACLS.

Professional Experience (essential minimum requirement):

  • Experience in respiratory therapy (3-5) years.

  • Ability to interact positively with staff, physician, patient and visitors
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle priorities
  • Good verbal, non-verbal written communication skills
  • Basic computer literacy
